On 30 January 2015 an art-for-architecture proposal for the Hessischer Hof in Worms-Rheindürkheim was submitted. The Hessischer Hof is the community centre for the district of Rheindürkheim, which lies directly on the river Rhine. The design proposal consists of an image installation for the pavilion with technical facilities on the roof terrace. The title, Vier-Fünf-Eins (Four-Five-One), relates to the location of the community centre, at Rhine kilometre 451.

The concept:
Four-Five-One is a proposal for an image installation that relates to the uniqueness of the place, makes it possible to experience the character of the site more intensely, and thus strengthens the citizens’ sense of identification with their district community centre. The place is defined by Rhine kilometre 451. This number is interpreted as a sequence of 10 panels, divided into groups of 4, 5 und 1 panels each. This relationship to the river kilometre is a reference to the Rhine shipping, which is significant for the people of Rheindürkheim.
Four-Five-One converts the reality of the location into painting. The animation that emanates from the waves of the Rhine, branches moving in the wind and changes in clouds and sky are reflected in a painted structure that imbues all ten panels with a common motion throughout. The colour composition reinforces impressions from the local conditions, which derive from the water, sky, foliage and finally from the touches of colour in red roofs. In this way the Rhine kilometre is bound to the scenario of its surroundings. Four-Five-One is designed so that the meaning of the installation is apparent to local citizens without difficulty. The number and grouping of the panels point to the definition of the locality– the Rhine kilometre – and thus to its geographical uniqueness. The painted content responds to the reality of the surroundings.
Four-Five-One was consciously conceived as a work for a wall, because the roof terrace of the Hessischer Hof is intended to serve its purpose, fulfilment and experiences for its guests, without restriction, i.e. without three-dimensional objects getting in the way. The floor surface is reserved for tables, chairs and sunshades, permitting guests to walk to and fro without any obstacles.
