In the second half of March 2016, for the energy supplier RWE, a generative image system was proposed that allows all employees of the company to be involved. The system consists of variations on signs that demonstrate the theme of energy flows, and was submitted as an application for the artist-in-residence programme VISIT.

The concept:
The planned work relates exclusively to RWE and is thus not a work with general reference to energy but has a direct connection to RWE. The company is presented as an energy corporation that not only generates and supplies energy but also contains energy within itself: work energy, manpower, teamwork, commitment, creativity. On the one hand, the macro- and microstructures of the company are explored. On the other hand, the participation of all employees is achieved. The means of carrying this out is a generative image system, or to be precise a generative system of visual signs. These signs stand for the flow of energy, i.e. for the work of the company in two senses: energy flows (external) as the result of the company’s work, and equally energy flows (internal) as the prerequisite for the company’s work. The generative sign system is given life from an inherent logic that permits an unlimited number of variations. In this way the individualisation and personalisation of workplaces becomes possible. The aim of the concept is not only to make the employees open to art, but also to tie them even more closely to the company and the big family of the total workforce. In short: the work creates a common identity. An artistic concept of this kind can be concluded in a six-month period.
