The art concept “Komm zu Tisch” (Come to the Table) is that several artists are given the same task by galerie m beck in Homburg/Saar. A normal platter (a wooden board used instead of a plate, often at breakfast time) that can be bought in shops is the basis for an artistic creation. For this task a solution was found that uses the platter not only as the base for an image but also incorporates the character and colour of the material into the design as painterly components. One the one hand, the character of the image and of the object thus enter into a new relationship. On the other hand, the imagined space immanent to the image gains a new interpretation, in this case related to the material. The concept exhibition runs from 3 to 28 November 2017.
The wording of the task:
“The exhibition concept Komm zu Tisch examines the social aspects of taking food and of table talk. Several artists were tasked with designing their personal place at the table. In this task they are restricted to the format 38 x 45cm and to wood as a base material. The artists explore, among other themes, the subject of the still-life, the panel painting, of designing space, of communication and of eating, themes that are generally known and have been treated in the history of art. Both classical image subjects and spatial installations (so long as the basic dimensions are not exceeded) can be addressed. The finished works will be presented at a long dining table in November 2017 at galerie m beck.”
