In July 2023 a proposal was submitted in an art-for-architecture competition for the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (Federal Office for Radiation Protection) in Neuherberg near Munich. In the new building, to be constructed in the coming years, there are places for art, in the foyer and outdoor areas on the one hand, and in the rest areas on the various floors on the other hand. A design entitled “Strahlen-Szenario” (Radiation Scenario) was proposed for the east and the west corridor of one of the floors, an installation of sound absorbers that will bear a sequence of images.

The aim of the art concept is to address the employees effectively and to enable them to gain an aesthetic approach to their special field of work, so that they can experience it differently, as well as to enhance their self-esteem and their feeling of belonging. This produces satisfaction, on the one hand, and motivation on the other hand.
The aesthetic of the Radiation Scenario is based on the wave motion of radiation. This generates motifs that enfold the space on three sides and as an ensemble create a consistent spatial image. The imaginary effect of this visual world contributes to the optical expansion of the space. The two spaces, the east and the west corridor, relate to one another: through their formal vocabulary and through their colour mood. In this way they are like two brackets of the space, but nevertheless they perceptibly differ.
The enjoyment of spending time in the space is increased by the fact that the motifs are printed onto sound absorbers, which create a subdued, pleasant acoustic.
