At the end of June 2024, a competition entry for art in architecture was submitted for the daycare center at Christ Church in Ludwigshafen/Rhine. The design envisaged a ball run for children on a sloping surface - the rainbow run.
The rainbow track is a ball runway where all children can get active. The art concept includes not only the object of the runway, but also the balls. Each child gets their own ball. This means that the work of art does not just consist of a sculptural object, but of a living event. The children take part in this event and are therefore involved in the work of art.
The children also get creatively involved in the work of art. Because each child paints their own ball (with a felt-tip pen). In this way, the individuality of each child is emphasized within a group event. The child is strengthened in his sense of personality: I am me.
But it's not just about fun games and group activities. It's also about introducing children to art. You experience an aesthetic object with its own design language by changing the direction through the always same 135-degree angle. They experience the directional dynamics even more strongly by observing the process of the rolling ball. You experience the individual process steps as a sequence of rainbow colors.
Accident safety is optimized by rounding all corners and edges. The upper edges of the runway end with a round tube.
